Viewtown scams
A woman from Viewtown Road called the sheriff’s office on Judy 7 to report a possible scam. According to the Sheriff s Office, the woman reported that a caller claiming to be the IRS said that she had been selected for $2,000 tax refund and asked her to supply her checking account number. The woman said that she gave them a fake number and hung up.
RCSO Sheriff Larry Sherertz praised the woman for not falling victim to the scam. “We remind people once again not to give any personal information over the phone,” he said, “Your credit card company or your bank will not ask for this type of information over the phone, but scammers will.”
Another Woman from Viewtown road called to report on July 6 that a credit card company called her and said that she was overdue for paying her bill. The woman said that she thought this odd since she never had a credit card and had never been sent a bill.
