Of the 61,252 NCAA football players, only 250 went on to play professional football in 2006. That means one out of every 245 NCAA players make it to the NFL. Hie probability of a high school football player mating it to the NFL is just one in 1,072.
And basketball is even worse. Only one of every 3,547 boy’s high school basketball players make it to the NBA. And for those of you with talented little girls, good luck. Hie chances of your daughter making the WNBA are one out of every 4,044.
All told, less than. 1,000 of the 145,452 NCAA studentathletes who compete in football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey, or soccer will be selected to play professionally.
The NCAA conducted the study to illustrate the importance of academics to studentathletes. And the outcome is clear. Statistics show that it’s time to put brains before brawn.
