Following are some paints for SSC consideration
- Two-thirds of Virginia’s population already resides in areas designated non-attainment, or areas that are borderline for attainment of air quality standards under the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). These localities already face a huge challenge to reduce their unhealthy levels of ozone and particulate matter in the air without being further hampered by the construction of Dominion’s proposed new power line. This proposed high intensity power line will connect to some of the worst polluting plants in the nation (Ohio Valley plants).
- These pollution generating plants have lost users in their own market and need new customers outside their locale to survive. It also appears that PJM is desperate to find a new cheap power source for its customers in the northeast. Its plan would extend the life of these out-dated, high-polluting coalfired facilities - plants that should long ago, have been closed or made to be environmentally-safe - by getting them
