Rappahannock News Staff Writer
The Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals approved two special-use permits at its monthly meeting on July 25.
Stella Liong and Bill Harris got the permit they wanted to set up {Jong's dentistry practice in a house off Crest Hill Road in Flint Hill. And Willie and Cathem Smith will now be able to sell automobiles at their property on U.S. 211 between Sperryville and Shenandoah National Park.
Both decisions were unanimous.
Dentist’s office
Many of the public comments regarding Liang’s office were similar to those made at the County Planning Commission’s meeting on July 18.
Opponents of the permit said the office would create a dangerous traffic situation on Crest Hill Road and allow a commercial use to inappropriately mix with a residential area.
“I think you’re making a historic derision,” said Jean Lillard, a neighboring property owner.
Peggy Ralph, who lives on Crest Hill Road, said speeding on the byway is already a problem.
“People don’t keep to that 25miles-per hour speed limit.” Ralph said.
Supporters of the application emphasized that the use is allowed by the county’s zoning ordinance and any additional traffic will be minimal as Liong is usually open no more than 20 hours per week.
“The impact is nonexistent; at worst, the impact is negligible,” said Flint Hill resident Richard Brady. The house Liong and Harris plan to buy belongs to the estate of Brady’s sister,
