Robin Lane, the road that accesses the future site of Liang's office, is less than onefifth of a mile down Crest Hill Road from U.S. 522.
Harris said Liang’s current location on U.S. 522 in Flint Hill is actually more dangerous than a new one would be on the private Robin Lane, because visitors to the office would not have to walk across the highway.
The dentist’s office will be the first commercial use approved in one of Rappahannock’s main villages that is not on a village’s main road. County Administrator John McCarthy said Liong and Harris are also the first people to apply for such a use.
Liong and Harris suggested that their special-use permit expire if they sell the property, and the BZA included that condition in its approval.
Auto sales
Willie and Cathem Smith’s permit approval brings an end to a three-month ordeal they have endured to be able to sell vintage cars on their property.
In May, the couple submitted an application for a zoning amendment to allow auto sales in the Highway Commercial Zone on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville. Public opposition led them to withdraw that application before the Board of Supervisors meeting.
In June, they reapplied for an amendment that would require a special-use permit for auto sales. The supervisors adopted the amendment on July 2 and the Smiths applied for a special-use permit shortly afterward.
