I have been thinking lately about how people react to change. Some wise person said the only thing that is constant about life is change. 1 think that’s about right.
I’m pretty certain we are naturally predisposed to wanting thiiigs to stay the way they are. Some of us are hard-wired that way, and are going to fight anything that looks like it will make our life a little different from what we are used to. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, but it does make getting through this world of constant change a bit more of a struggle than it needs to be.
Over the years, most of us learn that things are going to change and we begin to see that if we are going to survive with any sanity or peace of mind, we have to be able to adopt and adapt. The alternative is to be left with a dissatisfaction or bitterness that pervades our psyche and does not serve us well in our relationships with the rest of mankind.
Too many bears
Speaking of change, this year I have read more about backyard bears than any other year I can remember. It seems that a lot of people are having personal encounters with our local population of black bears. A number of us are excited in a good way, but a few more people are becoming genuinely concerned about our safety, and the safety of our domesticated friends.
