By Charlie Spiering Rappahannock News Staff Writer A soccer team from Brazil came to Rappahannock County yesterday, offering local children a chance to improve their soccer skills. About 50 young soccer players joined the camp which was held at the Rappahannock County Elementary School. The Brazilian soccer team consisted of eight former professional and semi-professional soccer athletes! Mario Nascimento, a team leader and musician for the group, said that the soccer camps were part of a missionary effort. “We teach the kids basic techniques, and tricks, how to dribble control the ball,” he said, "Then we share testimonies with the kids about our faith in Jesus Christ.” Later in the afternoon, the Brazilian team planned to play an exhibition game with local high school players and coaches. Tuesday the Brazilian soccer team played a game against members of the Culpeper United soccer team. A crowd of 250 spectators came to watch the game. Thursday the team will offer a similar camp in Madison County. Rica. “Everything stops when] they play an important game.” Bailey said that the] Baptist Association of Virginia * have a mission partnership! with Brazil. “We send people \ down there, and they send; people up here,” he said, “Each j group spends their time sharing the skills that they have j and witnessing to their faith.” Bailey noted that it was 9 great experience to have the soccer team visit Virginia. “Its neat to have people from other countries, who share our faith come and visit,” he said, ^Et makes the world a smaller place.”
