- Tragically, pollutants from these Ohio Valley power plants waft eastward on a daily basis, harming the health of our citizens. The damage this does to Virginia’s air quality has been well documented. Continued use of these coal-use plants which regularly spew polluted noxious air over us, also severely hampers Northern Virginia’s ability to meet required national air quality' standards as it places large portions of our population in harm’s way. News advisories continuously announce the danger of this bad air quality for our at-risk populations, which include among others, nursing mothers, bahies and youths, as Well as growing numbers of elderly people, those with respiratory problems and the poorest citizens.
