most of its plays in the past have been staged outside—in gardens, back yards; on the lawn behind the old Sperryville Pottery shop, at Waterpenny Farm, and in the streets of Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Charlottesville.
According to its founder and creative director, Peggy Schadler, the inspiration for “A Thousand Faces” comes from a book by Joseph Campbell called ‘Hero with a Thousand Faces.’ Its theme is that myths are not just old tales but stories one can make relevant to modern man and his concerns as well.
Using a unique blend of colorful masks and costumes, supported by talented live music, “A Thousand Faces” will present two plays: “When the Gods Coming Knocking” and “A Short Story for a Long Night.” Using part ritual, part whimsy with a large dose of theatre, the group is supported by several guitars and rhythmic drums.
