The tree, so huge that it spilled off the wagon front and back, was bedecked with a big red, white and blue bow; it was a gift from Mistletoe Farm in North Carolina.
“This is the 42nd year that the National Christmas Tree Growers have given the White House a tree,” said Laura Bush as she stepped onto the Portico to accept the special delivery. “We’re thrilled that this beautiful tree...is going to be here in the Blue Room.
“As you know, we have to remove the chandelier from the Blue Room because the tree is so big,” Bush continued, studying the 19-year-old evergreen as Karry and Dempsey waited patiently behind her, nonplussed by photographers’ flashbulbs and television lighting
“The decorators are all inside right now,” preparing ornaments and lights for the tree. Three hundred ornaments created by 300 artists from around the country will hang on the tree, the First Lady said.
