other since July, 1946 when Steindl was released to return to his family in Austria. About August 15, 1946, Rector received the first of many letters from the POW who had become his friend. The two men had established a friendship which even time and the distance across the Atlantic Ocean didn’t diminish.
There are several parallels in the lives of these two men. One example is that in each family the eldest and second children were born in 1948 and 1950, respectively. And each family has three children now.
What would Steindl most like to see during this visit to America? The capitol in Washington, D. C., is his first choice, followed by New York City, Washington, Virginia, and the surrounding countryside.—B. Burke
