Acknowledging first that he is neither politician nor public speaker, Hamill said he was sorry the space committee had gone to all the trouble of measuring the high school building. ‘‘1 can’t see any possible reason for having done so. . . There’s no reason to measure a building when you have the plans tfor the building's original construction).”
He detailed a procedure of his own for determing space adequacy. The first step is coming up with a projection on enrollment so the school board knows how many students it has to serve. Hamill said.
Superintendent William Bloomer responded that projections on the high school based on current grades moving up estimates enrollment in five years at 520.
"That’s not as accurate a way as it can be done.” Hamill said. Later he volunteered to do a demographic study to give Rappahannock a more scientific projection, explaining that he will plug information on birth rate, live births, number of oneyear olds entering school as first graders six years later and other statistical data into a complicated formula.
