teachers have indicated they won’t be back next year while only one new teacher has been officially hired.
The line item in the current budget for teachers’ salaries has $31,113 left, according to Mrs. Massie. “Why can’t we give the supervisors back $16,000 and you leave our budget as it is?” she asked.
Cox repeated that any surplus left in the school fund has already been counted as part of the overall county surplus.
Supervisor Clarence Baldwin asked if this year’s turnover rate was normal.
In the current year, Bloomer replied, 25 teachers out of a staff of 65 are new while in the 1980-81 term, 21 out of 67 will be new.
