“I don't think a $5 minimum will break anybody," Skippy Giles agreed.
After some discussion, the council settled on a 40 per cent jump that will bring the base rate to $4.20 and additional charges to 14 cents per 100 gallons. Formal action, however, was tabled until July when council members Dorothy Hawkins and Dorothy Clater will be in attendance. The public hearing on the increase is tentatively set for August.
Miller noted that few townspeople will attend upcoming council sessions on either the town’s com prehensive plan or revisions in its zoning ordinance. But folks will turn out for the hearing on the water rate increase, he added with a chuckle.
