The state supervisor of school buildings, the same expert cited as the authority behind Allen Stokes and Robert Eastham’s building space study, shot that study full of holes at Monday night’s meeting of the Rappahannock school board.
In a report submitted last month. Stokes and Eastham concluded that Rappahannock County High School has 43 per cent excess space, based on minimum state requirements of 15 square feet per pupil—a determination that they claimed was supported by state supervisor of school buildings John Hamill.
Noting that members of the Rappahannock school board have ‘‘some very :onfusing ideas,” Hamill reported on Monday that the Virginia department of education has established no standards for square footage required in public school buildings.
According to Hamill, there ire very few regulations on buildings and all relate to meeting the Standards of Quality for education set by the state.
