Travel Up

Although the year-end holiday season usually is regarded as a heavy travel period, travel on Virginia’s major highways increased less than one percent in December, 1981, when compared to the previous year.

According to statistics compiled by the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation, travel in the state in December was up by only 0.1 of 1 percent over December, 1980. That was the lowest percentage increase since January, 1981, when travel in the state showed an increase for the first time in 20 months.
