Amissville runs between 50 and 60 percent of its calls in Culpeper, five percent in Fauquier and the balance in Rappahannock, according to Atkins. (He said after the meeting that the Culpeper Fire Department has indicated it will not discontinue dispatch service for Amissville.)
Atkins told the supervisors that he doesn’t anticipate raising enough money to cover operating expenses through the fund drive since contributions for aii entire year usually run about $5,000.
“I think there are a whole lot of other companies in the county in the same shape we’re in,” he said, stressing the difficulty of completing training requirements, keeping equipment maintained and raising necessary operational funds with just the handful of active members in each company.
“We certainly sympathize with your situation,” responded supervisor chairman J. R. Latham. "But I don't know what can be done to remedy it except appeal to the people."
