Medical insurance complements the hospital insurance part of Medicare. Flospital insurance helps pay for medically necessary inpatient hospital care and certain followup care in a skilled nursing facility or at home.
Medical insurance helps pay for doctor’s services no matter where they are received in the U<S., including surgical service, diagnostic tests and X-rays that are part of the treatment, medical supplies furnished in the doctor's office, service of the office nurse, and drugs that are given as part of the treatment and which cannot be selfadministered.
Medical insurance also covers outpatient hospital services received for diagnosis and treatment and other services and supplies not covered by hospital insurance. In addition, it pays for 80 percent of the approved costs of charges for covered services and supplies after the patient has met the $75 annual deductible.
