Myers, who was riding an 11 for 11 streak at the foul line, missed the front end of a one-and-one. In addition, coach Edmondson said, the Panthers were hurt when a controversial blocking foul called on Leake in the overtime period put Rappahannock's big scoring threat out of the game.
Three days later, however, the Panthers roared back with a 59-39 victory over Luray. Glenn Fletcher was high scorer for RCHS with 21 points followed by Myers with 10.
“Fletcher scored 16 in the second half—that really opened things up,” Edmondson reported. “We played very well except for the second quarter when Luray outscored us by four.”
On Saturday, January 30, the Panthers traveled to Clarke County where they chalked up another one-sided victory, defeating their nondistrict opponents, 47-28.
The game got off to a slow start with a first quarter score of 8-6, RCHS ahead. “Clark started off in a zone defense and we usually play a ball control game, against a zone, working for the good shot," Edmondson explained.
