The board's response to the highway department's supplemental funding plan fell far short of endorsement. "As long as we can keep up the roads we have." said supervisor H. B. Wood, noting that the shortfall comes in construction, not in maintenance.
As to maintenance. Askew reminded the supervisors that Rappahannock's highway department has had "a pretty tough two weeks for snow removal. We have to see what the rest of the winter and spring brings us. I'm sure we're going to get some pot holes."
The resident engineer also informed the board that a property owner near Laurel Mills has asked the highway department to abandon a relocated section of Route 729 and volunteered to dedicate additional right-ofway along his road frontage. The supervisors agreed to advertise the abandonment for public hearing at their March meeting.
