Long distance telephone service to Washington residents was interrupted for approximately two hours last Thursday when a state highway department mower severed a Central Telephone Company cable.
According to Charlotte MacTurk in Centel's Front Royal office, the mower cutting a highway median strip between Washington and Flint Hill knocked over one of the utility’s green pedestals at about 3:45 p.m., interrupting both outgoing and incoming long distance calls. The line was repaired and back in service by 5:45.
