Virginia already requires registration of cattle dealers. This enables regulatory personnel of the state Veterinarian's Office to trace animals that develop brucellosis back to the herd of origin, Roth explained.
The new state brucellosis classification requires Virginia to go one step further by establishing a permit system to meet the requirements of the new uniform methods and rules established by the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
