trunk or lower am os oy a wasp-like moth with yellow and black transparent wings. The newly-hatched larvae enter the trunk or limbs through injuries or rough areas on the bark. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences faculty member said previously infected trees attract the egg-laying female moths.

Protect the trunk of the tree from physical injury caused by bumping with a lawn mower, sun scald or freezing. Wrapping the trunk of dogwood seedlings with Kraft paper helps prevent injuring, especially during the first two years after planting.
