seeing Slack’s work was immediate and enthusiastic. Yes, they would be thrilled to schedule a showing.
Neither is cautious in theirw praise. Slack’s paintings and miniatures, his mixed media wall fragments “turn on everybody who sees them,” Sarah reports. “Terrific.... great.... haunting,” are a few of the adjectives Dan uses in describing the 24 pieces that will hang in the Middle Street Gallery’s exhibit that begins Sunday, June 6, and continues through July 2.
But despite the positive reaction from everyone who views his creations, Rex Slack is still not comfortable with the artist label. “I’m not sure if I think of myself as an artist—My work is more personal and less art theory. I prefer the word “painter." Somehow, it’s more comfortable.”
But whether he’s a painter or an artist, the pieces that Rex Slack creates are works of art, art that finds beauty in truth, art that deserves the attention of the community.
