Robert T. Dennis of Amissville represented the Rappahannock chapter at the t>lst annual convention of the Izaak Walton League of America in Harrisburg. Pennsylvania, last week.
William D. Ruckelshaus, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), made his first appearance before an environmental group as keynote speaker. He stressed the need “to re-establish credibility" and asked that environmentalists and conservationists “be very, very careful. . . not to frighten the public. Ruckelshaus acknowledged that “far is a great road to action” but that, in the long run, "there is no substitute for rational examination of all the risks that beset us and the costs of reducing" those risks. He commended the Izaak Walton League for its willingness to discuss problems and asked for the League's support.
Dennis, Rappahannock’s representative at the convention, helped organize the county’s Izaak Walton League chapter. He is the director of the Warrentonbased Piedmont Environ mental Council and a member of Rappahannock’s Water and Sewer Authority.
