We hope that Kappahannock s school board follows the state board’s example by leading the way to the implementation of the new requirements, a step that means finally beginning on a capital outlay program at the high school.

For without additional space, there will be no classrooms available for the new teachers and the new classes mandated by the state.

The plan, which will take effect in the fall of 1984, establishes an “advanced studies” diploma for collegebound students. Young people intending to continue their education past high school will begin in the ninth grade with a more demanding program that requires three years of math, three years of science and three years of a foreign language. Elective course will drop from the current seven to four and course requirements for graduation will rise from 18 to I'l.
