Slone Tool Making
A workshop on making stone tools will be held at Thunderbird Museum and Archeological Park in Front Royal on Saturday, August 13, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost is $10 and participants are asked to bring a bag lunch. To register, call the museum at 635-7337.
Workshop For Kids
The Thunderbird Museum and Archeological Park in F ront Royal will offer a workshop for children, ages 9-12, beginning Monday, August 8, at 10 a.m.
The week-long course will cover Indian crafts ranging from pottery making to decorative arts. CoHt is $20 per child. To register, call the museum at 635.7337.
Warren Fair Opens
The Warren County Fair, now in its 26th fun-filled year, will open August 7-13 at the fairgrounds just north of town on Route 522.
The entertainment line-up begins Tuesday, August 9, at 7 and 9 p.m. with The Whits and at H and 10 p.m. with Shy. The Country Gentlemen will take the stage on Wednesday at 7 and 9 p.m. and on Thursday, the Young Dominion will present two shows. Steve Wariner will perform on Friday at 8 and 10 and on Saturday, the week will wrap up with Carol Steele at 5 and 6:30 followed by Razzy Bailey at 8 and 10 p.m.
Highlights of 4-H activities include the swine show, cow chip toss and the hairy beard and mustache contest on Monday, chicken frying contest Tuesday, open beef and dairy show and calf scramble on Wednesday and pet show, baby beef show and watermelon eating contest on Thursday. Friday will bring the goat show and the greased pig chase. Saturday’s headliners are the 4-H baby beef and livestock sale at 2 p.m. and the gentlemen's greased hog contest at 9 p.m.
Admission to the fairgrounds is $3. There is no charge for parking or the grandstand show.
Jenkins Reunion
I he annual reunion for the relatives and friends of the late Luther E. and Ada F. Jenkins will be held at the picnic area of Graves Mountain Lodge, Syria on Sunday, August 28, from 10 until dark.
All those attending are asked to bring a picnic lunch, which will be served at 1 p.m.
Seminar To Begin
An eleven week “Renewing Love” seminar for women will begin on Wednesday, August 31.
