Representing all the landowners between Ben Venue and Flint Hill, John Ralph petitioned the Rappahannock supervisors on Monday to lower the speed limit on the five mile section of Route 729 from 55 to 35 miles per hour.
“We have a very serious situation. It’s a narrow, winding road. Traffic has gotten increasingly heavier and considerably faster. . . We’ve had some very, very near misses,” said Ralph, adding that he has been forced off the road twice by vehicles coming at him in his lane. “We’re asking the supervisors fo consider lowering the speed limit to make the road safer for people. . . and cattle.” He noted that 15 people, 100 percent of the landowners along the road, had enthusiastically signed the petition for a 25 mph speed limit.
