Maurice Herndon was in New York when he learned that John Kennedy had been shot. He was speaking before an executive committee of insurance company legislative representatives—and “everyone in the room broke down and cried.”
“The city of New York came to a standstill,” he said.
AYid so Herndon returned to his Washington office. From his window overlooking the White House lawn, he had a view of the events surrounding
