One of Rappahannock's greatest resources is The Last Minute Wood Company. Professional dance troupes are rare in a county this size, particularly with performers of a caliber to merit invitations to participate in the major D.C. dance showcases. The competition for such invitations is frequently fierce. The fact that the reviews are often mixed is not discouraging it means simply that the city critics are finding as many good things to say about Rappahannock’s "rough hewn homespun" style as bad. And that's something coming from critics who are often quick to pan anything from the country.
Sally Nash is a modern Martha Graham, who was banned in earlier days for breaking away from ballet traditions by dancing barefoot. Graham developed an entire new school of style as does Sally Nash with The Last Minute Wood Company. Her choreography evokes the back breaking work of backwoods existence along with the close human ties that can (level ope where people live far enough apart to appreciate closeness.
