Commonwealth’s attorney Douglas Baumgardner expects Monday’s plea bargain in circuit court to lead to additional indictments for drug violations.

Deborah Ann Childress pleaded guilty to an amended offense of possession of marijuana Monday afternoon. She received a 30 day jail sentence, the maximum in Virginia for first time possession, a misdemeaner. The time was suspended and she was placed on 12 months unsupervised probation with the condition that she appear in court to testify in any future proceedings brought by the commonwealth, an apparent agreement to turn state’s evidence in other drug related cases.
