Kennedy Assassinated by Sniper's

Bullet; Lyndon Baines Johnson Is 3(1 th President, read the Rappahannock News top headline in the November 28. 1963 issue. A black bordered photo of John Fitzgerald Kennedy was above a picture of the flag flying at half mast at the Bradley - Atkins Service Station and Fruit Stand in Sperryville.

And as the News joined with the rest of the nation’s papers in mourning, the editor pulled from the files a photo of LBJ and Lady Bird stopping to talk with J. Rodes Brown of Sperryville and other area political leaders during the 1960 campaign’s whistlestop tour which came through Rappahannock.

Local businesses closed Monday “as they joined the world in mourning the untimely death of the late President John F. Kennedy. A memorial service was held at the Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church of Sperryville. Mrs. Thomas Massie completed the service with a solo “I Know That Mv Redeemer Liveth.”
