By Monday morning 250,000 had filed past the casket lying in state at the Rotunda. Now they crowded the streets of the city, startling in their silence.
Maurice Herndon watched it all from his window at the comer of Pennsylvania Avenue and 13th Street. It was only one of many great moments he watched from that window. Because of that location he says “I was sort of privy to the events. I saw the presidents coming and going. It made it seem so much more real.”
