the hospital and John Henry’s been elected sheriff with a healthy margin. And weren’t there just crowds of Castleton neighbors at the courthouse cheering him on? It’s official now. John Henry came into the news office Monday to place a help wanted ad for a deputy to fill the opening in January after he gets sworn in.
Congratulations go to Nelson Lane, Castleton’s new county supervisor, too. He was sitting in a school board meeting when he heard he’d won and he looked so shook up we thought he’d got bad news. Guess he’ll be sorry to leave the familiar surroundings and hopes he’ll do a good job. We know he will.
By the way, have you seen his new draft horses? They’re gonna be in big demand for holiday hay and sleigh rides. They’re right cute, too.
That EMT class on Monday nights seems to be dwindling down to a precious few as it gets harder and harder. All day Saturday they were practicing rescuing pretend folks who might have been trapped in crashed cars. They had to use all this heavy strange looking equipment to cut the cars apart. Next they each have to work ten hours in a hospital emergency room. They say the lucky ones will see a lot of blood — they’re the lucky ones cuz they’ll get a lot more experience. “Monday night EMT widow” Donna Fisher says “They deserve all the credit in the world if they get through this.” It isn’t too much longer....
Waverly and Lillian Frazier entertained their daughter Ellen Wharton from Culpeper over the weekend. She stayed Saturday night and they went shopping in Front Royal.
