Robert Ramey of Flint Hill was
enormously proud of the very large deer that he bagged on the first day of deer hunting season. The animal weighed 188 pounds field dressed.
Rappahannock County had a fairly heavy deer kill along the foot of the Blue Ridge on the first day of the deer season. Three of the five game checking stations had reported a total of 51 deer by the late afternoon. The same three stations had reported five bear checked through the week before, compared to one bear during the entire previous season. The highest bear take was in 1971 when nine were bagged.
