The word we heard is that the Turkey Ridge Run is going to be a humdinger. Entire track teams are signing up for it. It will make the Boston Marathon look like a tiny little gathering of folks out for an afternoon stroll.
Runners have until November 28 to pre-register by mailing their $6 entry fee to Phillip Strange in care of the Castleton fire hall, general delivery. Phillip says the 7.3 mile run has been set for December 3 — a good time to work off that gracious plenty of Thanksgiving turkey that might make you fat otherwise — maybe that’s why it’s the turkey ridge run? You don't get a ridge ’round your stomach if you run, right?
Anyway, going up and down the pretty hills in Castleton will surely be an annual great sporting event.
There was a great dance event at the elementary school Saturday but there weren’t a lot of local folks there to see it. Julie Coon and the rest of The Last Minute Wood Company are Rappahannock’s answer to the New York City Ballet — Julie is a pretty and graceful dancer and all of Castleton ought to turn out this Saturday for the second performance of “Seen Through Moving Waters.”
Sammy Vanneman turns four on Friday and Cherry says some suitable celebration will mark the occasion. Donna Fisher says the same of Saturday when Lewis turns 14. However the event will be a little different — for a flock of wild teenage boys will swoop down on the Fishers’ home — some of them to roost all night. Sammy likes his parties a little more sedate at his age.
Donna says Wayne came home from the hospital last Friday and expected to go back to school starting today. Tuesday Peggy Woodward came home from the hospital in Richmond after staying for nearly a week.
