Nichols told the 40 or so people who attended the hearing that he was surprised and impressed by the turnout. He explained again, however, that residents’ concerns about the proposed facility were not in the realm of IDA bond statutes, but the jurisdiction of other authorities such as town supervisors and the water control board.
Opponents of the proposed adult home said that they had drafted petitions, garnered more than 300 signatures, and sent them to Governor Robb and the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors.
“We have good reason to believe the supervisors of Rappahannock are going to reconsider (the proposed group home) very seriously,” Gene Leggett of Harris Hollow said.
“I myself am not throwing in the towel until the end of the 15th round,” John Clark, Jr., who has become the informal leader of those opposed to the project, added.
