The Democratic Convention in Norfolk a fortnight ago came within inches of being a debacle comparable to the party’s calamitous conclaves in Roanoke in 1968 and 1972.
It was saved from being a total catastrophe only because an adjournment was engineered before a liberal platform could be adopted which could well have done in every Democratic candidate in the state in this Call’s elections.
As things turned out, a catastrophe was avoided. The convention turned out to be merely a disaster.
I do not use the word lightly.
