Life was serious, too. In 1923, C.B. took a job with Railway Mail Services. “Worked there 37 years and 2 months,” he said with certainty.
C.B. sorted mail on the train while enroute to stations in Boston, Woodville, Sperryville, Washington and other points south to Charlottesville. If they were picking up mailbags, the train would stop; if they were only delivering, the mailbag would be hooked on a post outside the station as the train whisked by.
