The children ran, wrestled, and played with intensity, and then had energy < for the events, and more energy yet. Miss Foster, physical education aide, who was experiencing Field Day for the first time, said it was the main event of the year and gave the children a chanty to “let it loose.” Children talked about it for months before, and would a&ue about it for weeks after,,she said.
It was fortunate, according to the teachers, that there were enough grounds and facilities for all the events to be held with all the children participating at the same time. Many other schools, they said, didn’t have as much land and had to operate in shifts.
Mrs. Lynne Barnes, seventh grade teacher, was particularly enthusiastic. She called Field Day “glorious," and thought it was especially wonderful that the teachers got to wear shorts, get a suntan, and throw eggs at each other, too.
