C.B.’s recollections of life on Red Oak are vivid as violets on an overcast day. The boys found time for mischief, he recalled.
Bryan was the instigator on one particular day. C.B. recalled that Bryan diligently had been trapping owls, the beaks from which drew a healthy bounty of 50 cents each.
Bryan was bored. He thought it would be fun to see how one of the barn cats might react to the owl. So, he tied the dead bird to the cat’s tail.
The cat fled the scene of the<crime like a bandit. The owl scurried too; bouncing along in hot pursuit.
