His blue eyes still sparkle; there’s hardly a wrinkle on his face. His mind is as clear as a morning on Red Oak Mountain. He’s Clarence Berkley “C.B.” Johnson, and when he turned 90 on May 25, people from all over Rappahannock County and elsewhere turned out to wish him Happy Birthday.
C.B. was born in Browntown, in Warren County, in 1894. But he grew up in Woodville, on top of Red Oak, the same mountain his ancestors first inhabited in 1746.
Red Oak remained virtually unchanged from that time until the turn of the 20th Century; while C.B. was growing up, only five families lived there.
"It was very pleasant for me,” C.B. readied of early years on Red Oak. "We had a little farm.”
