The cat proceeded through a fence; the owl got detached at that point. When the cat looked back, the owl was sitting caught in the fence. The cat turned on the owl and attacked — to the hoots and hollers of the boys. . . until they heard Mom coming.

Mom was Florence Adelaide Johnson, who lived to be 98. She was strong-willed and, generally, soft-hearted.
