In a full and lengthy - Meting bat Wednesday; the Board of Zoning Appeals denied one request, granted four others, requested advice from the Planning Commission on a sixth, lectured one applicant on neighborly behavior and heard an unscheduled appeal from Roger and Diane Kidwell.

An eighth request, that of Russell A. Langelle for a variance to build on his property near Rock Mills, was dismissed as unnecessary after the board examined his plans.

The one denial applied to the request of A. Burke Hertz to build an apartment for a custodian over an existing outbuilding on his property. Board members struggled with the language of the regulations in what they saw as a conflict between the letter and the spirit of the law.

The Planning Commission had recommended that the board not approve the Hertz request, saying that the proposed addition was not in compliance with the density called for by the general plan for that area, at Massie’s Corner not far from Washington.
