The board then discussed when the tax increase should go into effect: immediately, January 1, March 1 or May 1, 1985. March 1 was the date agreed upon, the first day new county stickers will be available.
Also on March 1, the text of the county ordinance will be amended to comply with state enabling legislation. Also revised to conform to state law is the fine for violation of the ordinance, $20 maximum, down from $1,000 maximum in the county’s outdated code, according to the commonwealth’s attorney.
The board discussed other items during its meeting, among them:
• Dog-tax ordinance. The board hopes to revise fees charged to dog owners before November 1, the date when tags go on sale for the next calendar year. The supervisors proposed to change the fees to $5 for each dog over six months of age. Previously, the
