committee of two teachers from each school, an administrator from both schools, Assistant Superintendent Thomas Campbell, Special Services Coordinator Pam Rowe and Superintendent Estabrook has been working on deciding what lands of experiences will be offered to the students, the kinds of activities, extra classroom opportunities needed, and how best to expend monies for the gifted and talented. The entire faculty will be consulted for their ideas on Friday, September 14, and the committee will report on its progress at the next school board meeting, Estabrook said.

In executive session, the board accepted the resignation of high school math teacher Lee Timmerman and the resignation of Richard Ralls, custodian at the high school. The appointment of Ronald Vickers to the position of eighth grade basketball coach was approved along with the appointments of Winifred Heberle as special education teacher at the high school, and W. Edward Lakes as math teacher at the high school.

Substitute teachers approved by the board were: Nancy Freeman, Janet Hitt, Wayne Leavell, Troy Robinson, Joanne Welch, Terrie Davis and Marjorie Berry.

The board also decided that it will waive its compulsory attendance policy if the family of a child makes that request.

The next meeting of the board will be on October 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the elementary school’s library.
