A Very Private Eye is Barbara Pym’s autobiography in diaries and letters written from the time she entered Oxford in 1982 until her death in 1960. The reader sees Pym the writer at work on Some Tame Gazelle, Jane and Prudence, and other novels, and also comes to know a Barbara Pym quite different from the “excellent” British women of her books.
