I have read the present 1984 Zoning Ordinance from cover to cover and there are some discrepancies in it that should be c)wifi^d. I hope the five community meetings will be able to do just that.
Mr. Nelson Lane quoted a statement made by Mr. Robert Eastham at a school board meeting. I think the recitation of that statement was entirely irrolevqnt to the zoning meetings. Mr. Lane should not have 'tfhade such a statement.
Our country was founded upon principles. Principles which have survived a Revolutionary War, a War Between the States, World Wars I and II, a Korean Conflict, and a Vitenam Conflict.
One. principle is that of a representative dertfocra^y on the right to freely elect people who will serve you the citizen and voice your concerns. Mr. Latham, in failing to represent the Jackson District, is not living up to that principle.
Another principle is the public’s right to know an4 I would like to know why we need all of these ordinances. It seems to me that one ordinance would be sufficient for Rappahannock County.
The last relevant principle is separation of religion and government. Government officials should not go around making religious statements out of context.
Let’s start living up to our democratic principles and address the issue of obtaining a zoning ordinance for Rappahannock County.
