of the fences, Mr. Arundel took the jockeys around the lVs-mile course. When they came to the fence in front of the steward’s stand the field jumped the large timber to enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.
A little out of breath from his commentary while galloping around the course, Mr. Arundel also jumped the final fence receiving a similar reception from the crowd.
“Everyone was very pleased with the way the course rode," Mr. Arundel said after his ride. “The turns are perfect at speed, it fenced very easily, the groundline made jumping very good. The footing is like galloping on velvet.”
The Great Meadow Races on Oct. 20 — the course’s first sanctioned steeplechase meet — will also serve as a test prior to the 1985 Virginia Gold Cup next May. Pleased with the reof
