Superintendent Estabrook told the board that the enrollment at the elementary school is 582, and the enrollment at the high school is 411, for a total of 993 students. A total of 1,020 students had been projected for the budget. The board will consider the possible loss of monies if the projection is not met by the board’s next meeting.
An administrative review of Rappahannock County schools will be conducted by the Virginia State Board of Education beginning on October 16. The review will last for three days, and will involve the examination of all records for the schools and their programs.
Superintendent Estabrook also told the board of the receipt of the schools’ accreditations. Both schools are listed as accredited and advised, which means that each school has from two to five deficiencies.
“The deficiencies relate to some teachers not being fully certified for a course they were teaching,” Estabrook said. “Realize, however, that in part of the deficiencies that are part of this accreditation relate to last year’s situation.” He further said that some of those certification difficulties had been resolved, but that each school would still have around three deficiencies.
